Eurovision - Greatest Hits, Kind Of

Image
Welcome back! Double post day, to celebrate Eurovision. In preparation for tonight, I'm going to put some classics (genuine Eurovision classics), disrespected gems (songs that should have done better) & 'Eurovision Classics' (songs that are pure Eurovision filth; tunes that make you say 'what the f*ck'). Classic Firstly, let's start with a classic and you can't get more classic than my overall favourite song. A previous winner of the competition for the United Kingdom - ladies and gentlemen, Brotherhood of Man! It's a pure feelgood song. Disrespected Gem This gained no points at all. I've put this as a disrespected gem as it should have done better. It's a beautiful ballad, it wasn't a placeholder song like some host countries enter the year they host, they had a grand piano that set on fire. There really wasn't an explanation as to why it received no points - very unfair to tell Austria they've done a fantastic show and then dump...

Eurovision Grand Final - Preview

Image
Welcome back! So the second semi final was exactly as I expected it to be - not as good as the first semi final. I don't mean to sound callous about Thursday's countries, but it's not like any of them stands a chance to take the trophy this year. That honour sits solely with Loreen and Sweden. So in terms of predictions, I hit a respectable 7. I fully expected to be knocked off my perch from Tuesday. For those who didn't watch, the qualifying countries were Armenia, Estonia, Belgium, Cyprus, Poland, Slovenia, Austria, Albania, Lithuania & Australia. From these, it did tickle me slightly that my deliberations over which of the three stylistically similar songs from Iceland, Georgia & Estonia were all for naught - I'm not disappointed Estonia went through, as it's still a great song, just still believe that Iceland and Georgia were better choices. In this post, I'm going to predict how I think the leaderboard will end up by the end of the night. This ...

Eurovision Semi Final 2 - Preview

Welcome back! So a quick summary of the first semi final - great staging; Hannah Waddingham, surprisingly funny (expected to dislike her); Alesha Dixon, still not a fan (about as talented as toothpaste); musical interludes were fun and fit the theme of the show well. Overall, it was a pretty solid show. Unfortunately for semi final 2, semi final 1 was definitely the strongest in terms of songs. In terms of predictions, I am happy to report that I got 100% with my predictions this year, which is rare, as the most I've ever gotten is 9, with 7 being the rough average. In this post, it'll be pretty much the same as the last one. I'll give a brief, personal opinion on each participant, as well as the last remaining 'Big 5' songs (United Kingdom & Spain) and last year's winner, Ukraine. Denmark - Breaking My Heart by Reiley A big year for the Scandinavian countries as I think this will go through, making all Nordic countries, qualifiers, this year. It's a ni...

Eurovision Semi Final 1 - Preview

Image
Hi all! It's Eurovision week, with the festivities already having kicked off in Liverpool. For those new to the contest, or just wanting a refresher, here is a rundown of how the week will go. On Tuesday and Thursday, we will see a semi-final take place where countries who don't make up the 'Big Five', will compete for a place in the grand final. Tuesday has 15 participants, with 10 qualifying. Thursday has 16 participants, with 10 qualifying. They will join the 'Big Five' (United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain & Italy) along with the 2022 winner, Ukraine. Due to the ongoing war in Ukraine, the UK will host on their behalf and hopefully celebrate Ukrainian culture and music in a safe setting, however I feel the UK may see this as their one and only chance to host. In this post, I will preview the participants in the first semi-final and predict who I believe with qualify. This may change when the semi-final starts as sometimes the staging of the song can gr...

Welcome to the Mind Dump

Image
Intro   As I sit in a caravan on the Northumberland coast blasting Cottagecore music into the wind, it occurs to me that I haven't blogged or spewed forth into the online void for a very long time. That changes today. To friends, welcome back to the Dan's Mind Dump, formally the Ramblings of a Mythical Jesus, but now more mature (apparently). To newcomers, welcome. Pull up a chair and enjoy my musings on things and such. FAQ  (that aren't actually frequently asked) Who are you? - I'm Dan. I'm 34. I live in the North East of England. Why are you doing this? - Why not. Sometimes I have thoughts that take over my brain that I need to get down to free up space for more stupidity. What is your plan? - Well, regular updates and grow a community of likeminded weirdos, looking for a safe place on the internet. Most importantly, it's Eurovision week next week and that's a huge week for me. I love Eurovision and enjoy nothing more than judging music based on the merit...
